Guardians of a Proud Legacy: Carrying the Legacy Forward
The story of the Buffalo Soldiers is a powerful testament to courage, perseverance, and unwavering service to a nation that did not always return that loyalty. Formed in the aftermath of the Civil War, the 9th and 10th Cavalry carved out an enduring place in American history. They protected frontier communities, built critical infrastructure, enforced law and order, and served with honor in conflicts both at home and abroad—often in the face of discrimination and adversity. The Baltimore Metropolitan Area Chapter of the 9th & 10th Horse Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers proudly carries this legacy forward. For nearly three decades, we have been dedicated to preserving, honoring, and sharing the history of these extraordinary men and women. This November marks our 30th anniversary, having participated in over 600 events, reenactments, school presentations, memorial ceremonies, parades, museum exhibitions, military and cultural programs. Through these efforts, we do more than tell history—we bring it to life and make it meaningful for today’s generation. We stand as guardians of this proud legacy with other chapters across the United States. The Baltimore Chapter is in need of growing our membership as we move into the next era. Help us to keep the legacy alive—for our community, for our nation, and for generations to come. Our need to grow in numbers has never been greater. Preserving history is not a one-person task; it requires a committed and passionate community. That is why we warmly welcome you and your families to join us. It is up to us to ensure that 150 years from now, the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers is still remembered and honored. Membership in our chapter has no prerequisites.
